Cypress Truck Lines selects SmartDrive

SmartDrive Systems announced that Cypress Truck Lines Inc., a Jacksonville, Fla.-based family-owned and operated trucking company, has selected SmartDrive’s video-based safety program for deployment to improve safety and reduce costs.

Following an extensive evaluation process of multiple providers, Cypress Truck Lines selected SmartDrive to complement its existing safety program because of its modern technology platform, flexible program and hands-on customer success team, said the company. Cypress noted that it chose to add a video based-safety program to provide a deeper view of overall safety performance and to help lower collision costs by reducing the number of claims and exonerating drivers from not-at-fault collisions. Within weeks of implementation, the company improved its safety score by 57% and saw reductions in speeding and distracted driving—58% and 48% respectively, according to SmartDrive.

“Safety is our top priority,” said Thad Penland, vice president at Cypress Truck Lines. “We tell our employees that everything else will take care of itself as long as you are safe. For that to really be part of the culture, everyone needs to buy into it—which starts at the top. SmartDrive has brought a tangible perspective to our culture of safety by providing insight to the challenges our drivers face daily on the road. The program is in place to protect our drivers and we are already seeing it positively impact our fleet operations—exonerating two drivers who were not at fault in addition to significantly reducing collision costs. SmartDrive has become a key part of our on-boarding and training programs. We rest-easy knowing that we can quickly identify new drivers that need further training, lowering our risk while improving overall performance.”

SmartDrive’s video-based safety program identifies unsafe driving with an open platform that captures video, vehicle, audio, driving data, and automatically offloads footage for expert review and analysis.

“Cypress Truck Lines takes an innovative approach to safety by treating it as a strategic component of their business,” said Steve Mitgang, chief executive officer of SmartDrive. “We are proud to have been selected by a company that is not satisfied with the status-quo and has proven you can invest in safety and your drivers, while also building a growing, healthy business. We are thrilled to welcome Cypress Truck Lines to the SmartDrive family.”
