Designed for extreme gross weight applications, the new VNX tractor from Volvo Trucks is rated for gross weight applications up to 225,000 lbs., including heavy equipment hauling, aggregate, low-boy, logging, oil field and mining operations. VNX demonstrator models will be available in early summer, and fleets can begin placing orders for the new tractor in the fall.
Available in 6×4 and 8×4 configurations with Volvo’s full-size day cab, the VNX has front axle ratings from 16,000 to 20,000 lbs. with parabolic springs. Available rear axles range from 46,000 to 52,000 lbs. in regular, dual-track and wide-track tandem configurations. Dual steering gears and a 20,000-lb. steerable pusher axle are also available. The VNX can be fitted with 385 wide-base, 425 and 445 tires to match front axle load capacity.
The VNX is fitted with a Volvo integrated powertrain including a newly introduced 600 HP D16 engine rated at 2,050 ft.-lb. of torque and an I-Shift automated manual transmission, which is now a standard feature across Volvo’s North American product lineup. Also standard on the new VNX is Volvo Enhanced Stability Technology, a full electronic stability program that assists drivers in maintaining control during emergency maneuvers and braking events.
