ArvinMeritor launches ELSA air disc brake models

ArvinMeritor introduced new 17.5 inch, 19.5 inch and 22.5 inch members of its Meritor ELSA air disc brake family.

ArvinMeritor introduced new 17.5 inch, 19.5 inch and 22.5 inch members of its Meritor ELSA air disc brake family.

These new models allow it to cover a full range of vocational and duty cycle demands, the company said. They are known as the EX family in North America.

The brakes offer advantages of the modular concept that’s inherent in the ELSA family, the company said.

By selecting the correct housing and matching it with the appropriate bridge and carrier, ArvinMeritor said it can engineer an optimum solution for any disc brake application. Very high part commonality across the entire range ensures that all of its previous engineering experience and in-service performance confidence carries through to these new products.

The modular approach allows the company to support customers around the world through local assembly plants supported by optimized global sourcing and logistics, the company said.

Notable additions to the family include the ELSA175S and ELSA195S with

single tappet actuation and the lightweight ELSA225L.

In start/stop mode, according to Carrier, the greater capacity and higher efficiency also help the Vector 8500 achieve setpoint faster, enabling the engine to shut off sooner, ultimately reducing engine run hours and runtime-based maintenance expenses. The Vector 8500 unit’s engine is certified for the 2013 EPA Tier 4 standard for engines less than 25 HP. For fleets operating in California beyond seven years, the Vector platform’s standard electric standby capability provides an in-use compliance option.
