According to the company, the main benefit of the coolant filter system is to protect EGR engine oil cooler and water pump systems from sediment and sand that get built up in the coolant. The coolant filter system is a cheap safeguard to protect these expensive to replace components, the company added.

PMM, which is introducing this technology to the light-duty truck market, said Powerstroke engines are sand cast, adding that this sand often does not get removed completely from the process. In fact, the sand leaches out of the casting over time and can damage the oil cooler and water pump. It can also clog the delicate EGR system on the Powerstroke, according to PMM.

The company said its product has a filter base that is machined from T-6061 aluminum and includes high-quality silicone hoses and fittings. Installation is a snap and does not require any cutting or splicing to any of the OEM heater hoses, which means not having to cut any hoses prevents leaks down the road, the maker added.
