Delo introduces new nitrite-free extended life coolant

Chevron’s Delo brand of technologically advanced engine oils, lubricants and coolants, has introduced the latest member of its product family, Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze - Nitrite Free (DELO ELC-NF). Its maker says the new extended life coolant (ELC) is recommended for use in on- and off-road heavy-duty equipment, as well as stationary applications, requiring a nitrite-free OAT formulation, as mandated by engine manufactures like Detroit Diesel, which only allows the use of nitrite-free extended life coolants (OAT) in its engines. Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze - Nitrite Free helps ensure operators meet OEM warranty requirements.

Chevron’s Delo brand of technologically advanced engine oils, lubricants and coolants, has introduced the latest member of its product family, Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze – Nitrite Free (DELO ELC-NF). Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze – Nitrite Free helps ensure operators meet OEM warranty requirements.

Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze – Nitrite Free offers a service life of 600,000 miles, 12,000 hours or six years with no chemical extender needed. Other benefits of the new Delo ELC-NF include: excellent corrosion protection and lower electrical conductivity; exceptional protection against pitting, corrosion and erosion even on hard-to-protect metals like aluminum; superb heat transfer compared to silicate containing coolants; improved water pump life due to its silicate-free formula. DELO ELC-NF is 100 percent compatible with DELO ELC, which contains nitrite. Like other extended life coolants in the Delo line, the new nitrite-free ELC product is dilution tolerant up to 25 percent.

“Not only does our new product meet the needs of OEMs requiring the use of nitrite-free OAT coolants, but also it provides maximum protection of the six basic metal alloys found in most heat transfer systems,” said Carmen Ulabarro, indirect channel manager, Chevron Products Company. “As a global leader in coolant technology, Chevron has a product line that successfully balances the needs of both the OEMs and the customers. Our ELC products help maintain OEM warranties while providing customers the performance they need to drive bottom-line value. In addition to extended life coolant products Chevron has also taken the lead in the development of field tests for their extended life coolants. I believe that our newest field test is a great improvement over our previous field test kit and will give Chevron customers the added security of knowing that the Chevron formulation has not been over-diluted with conventional or fully formulated coolants or water.”

Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze – Nitrite Free is currently available in North America in pails, drums and bulk and will soon be offered in gallon jugs.

All Delo products are covered under the Delo Warranty Plus program, which provides bumper-to-bumper protection against lubricant and coolant related failures as described in the Delo warranty.

Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze – Nitrite Free meets or exceed the requirements of the following:

  • Detroit Diesel/MBE
  • Cummins
  • MTU
  • European OEM’s like Volvo
  • Japanese OEM’s like Komatsu
  • ASTM D 3306, Performance requirements of ASTM D6210 and TMC RP 329
  • OEM’S requiring a nitrite free extended life coolant based on carboxylate technology
