Western Star 4900 FE offers versatility, durability, fuel efficiency

Extreme flexibility: Western Star 4900 FE offers versatility, durability, fuel efficiency

The Western Star 4900 series truck is a model for multiple applications, from trucks and tractors in a variety of vocational configurations to the more aerodynamic on highway tractor model.

According to, Guy Lemieux, marketing segment manager Western Star Trucks Inc., “The 4900 base model is like a ‘Swiss Army knife,’ it provides total versatile functionality. As an on highway tractor, with the designation ‘FE’ [fuel efficient], this durable workhorse is proving an excellent choice for owners and fleets looking for improved fuel economy.”

A new aero package provides the fuel savings. Ann Demitruk, director of marketing Western Star Trucks Inc., states, “The 4900SB FE is a set-back axle configuration that can be specified with a DD-15, DD-13 or Cummins ISX engine and, coupled with the high visibility more aerodynamic hood, that makes it a great on-highway tractor.”

Lemieux notes the 4900FE uses a durable galvannealed steel cab, and when combined with a 68-in. sleeper it actually offers a weight advantage over most aluminum cabs. This can be attributed to the aerospace-inspired technology of the durable yet lightweight sleeper designs.”

Currently, Western Star 4900SB FE demo units (68-in. sleepers) with DD15 and DD13 engines are being made available through Western Star dealers. Owners and fleets can get behind the wheel and take the truck through its paces to check out the benefits. The demonstration units are specified with the aero package, which includes the high visibility hood, wrap-around front bumper, rear-mounted exhaust, roof cap, and underhood placement of the air cleaner. These features, coupled with the classic look of the Western Star, add to the appeal.

“We want to surprise fleets and owners with the benefits of this exciting new 4900SB FE package,” adds Demitruk.

Time to take a test drive.
