Fleet Engineers partners with Freightliner’s Team Run Smart Pro

Fleet Engineers Inc. has formally partnered with Freightliner’s Team Run Smart Pro‘s Henry Albert, owner of Albert Transportation Inc., based in Statesville, N.C. Albert has been a trucker since 1983 and is operating a Freightliner Cascadia Evolution 72-in. sleeper. He has been successfully utilizing Fleet Engineers’ SmartWay-verified Advanced Air Slipper side skirts and AeroFlap mud flaps for over three years. The new partnership will increase product development opportunities for Fleet Engineers and support Albert’s fuel efficiency goals.

“Working with Henry and Freightliner’s Team Run Smart on this initiative is a great fit for us,” said Ken Griswold, Fleet Engineers vice president of marketing and sales. “We have recently realigned our product line offering and are focusing on increasing our value proposition to the market through our aerodynamic solutions, door systems, spray control and parts and accessories for trucks and trailers. Our mission is to enhance overall efficiency for fleets.”

With increasing concerns about fuel efficiency and new environmental standards from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other organizations, the trucking industry is focusing more on the cumulative benefits of the existing and developing aerodynamic product solutions being introduced in the marketplace, said Fleet Engineers. Working through an aggressive digital communications plan, Freightliner’s Team Run Smart and Albert are raising awareness with drivers and fleets for the opportunity that investing in new efficiency-focused solutions can provide. Albert is also highlighting the economic value investing in efficiency offers.

“My goal is to do as well as I possibly can on fuel,” Albert said. “I’m working with Fleet Engineers because we have a mutual commitment to creating greater efficiencies without sacrificing performance. For example, the ideal configuration for a side skirt is to push it down as close to the road as possible, but there’s the practical issue of being able to operate the truck without damaging the side skirt. By working with me and other operators, the Fleet Engineers team is able to offer the perfect blend of maximum efficiency and maximum usability.”

“Our goal in partnering with Henry and Team Run Smart is to take more of a grassroots approach to conducting research and developing products that target greater efficiency,” said Griswold. “Truckers and fleets provide access to crucial user feedback that often gets overlooked in the product development process. By connecting directly with Team Run Smart and tapping into the community of truckers that continues to grow around the initiatives Freightliner is supporting, we hope to leverage that feedback and turn it into products that help our customers improve their bottom line.”

According to the latest numbers from ACT Research, preliminary North America Class 8 net orders were 27,700 units, up 600 units from January and 16% from a year ago. With the fourth-largest seasonal factor of the year at 8%, seasonal adjustment reduces February’s Class 8 intake to 25,600 units, up 5% from January.

“Weak freight and carrier profitability fundamentals, and large carriers guiding to lower capex in 2024, would imply pressure in U.S. tractor, the North American Class 8 market’s largest segment,” said Kenny Vieth, ACT’s president and senior analyst. “While we do not yet have the underlying detail for February order volumes, Class 8 demand continuing at high levels again this month suggests that U.S. buyers continue as strong market participants.”
