Goodyear expands retread network

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has expanded its Goodyear Authorized Retread network with the addition of Colonial Tire Distributors, a Richmond, Va.-based provider of Goodyear commercial truck tires, retreads and other products and services.

Colonial Tire Distributors, a subsidiary of Colonial Truck Co., sells new Goodyear commercial truck tires and Goodyear retreads at three locations in Richmond, Ashland and Tidewater, Va. The company’s retread plant in Richmond produces Goodyear precure retreads, including the G572, the G316 AT, and others. Colonial also offers 24/7 emergency roadside assistance through the Goodyear-FleetHQ business solutions program.

“Most of our customers are small-to-mid-size trucking companies, and we do some large fleet work, as well,” said Colonial Tire Distributors president Bob Barkley. “Regardless of their size, fleets want premium products and services that help them lower their overall operating costs.”

Barkley added that an uptick in demand for retreads over the last few years made joining the Goodyear Authorized Retread network that much more attractive to Colonial. “The company’s products and services are top-notch, and the technical and sales support that it provides enables us to serve our customers more effectively,” he stated. “We strive to be a full-service provider to the trucking industry and our connection to Goodyear gives us an important advantage over our competitors.”

According to the latest numbers from ACT Research, preliminary North America Class 8 net orders were 27,700 units, up 600 units from January and 16% from a year ago. With the fourth-largest seasonal factor of the year at 8%, seasonal adjustment reduces February’s Class 8 intake to 25,600 units, up 5% from January.

“Weak freight and carrier profitability fundamentals, and large carriers guiding to lower capex in 2024, would imply pressure in U.S. tractor, the North American Class 8 market’s largest segment,” said Kenny Vieth, ACT’s president and senior analyst. “While we do not yet have the underlying detail for February order volumes, Class 8 demand continuing at high levels again this month suggests that U.S. buyers continue as strong market participants.”
