The new AL07+ long-haul steer tire from Hankook Tire utilizes innovative technology to increase both durability and fuel efficiency, its maker said.
“Hankook’s AL07+ is truly a great innovation for truckers everywhere,” said Brian Sheehey, commercial tires director, Hankook Tire America Corp. “We’ve been able to utilize a number of new technologies that Hankook has developed during the past couple of years to create the best commercial tire on the market. Fleet owners will see a significant increase in durability, performance and fuel efficiency by using this tire.”
According to the tire maker, Hankook’s new product for the trucking industry uses a breakthrough mixing system to ensure longer tread life without sacrificing performance or safety. Hankook calls the process Innovative Mixing System (IMS), which reinforces a stronger bond of the materials and generates lower heat — both characteristics are said to improve tire life. Other innovations help to improve the tire’s durability, the company said.
The AL07+ has a unique decoupling groove designed to maximize tread wear. By minimizing the coupling movement between the tread and sidewall, this new groove helps decrease the amount of heat generated and is less susceptible to tearing, Hankook stated. Also, the profile of the tire is designed to wear evenly thanks to Hankook’s Stiffness Control Contour Technology (SCCT). This latest piece of technology allows the internal force on the carcass to be distributed evenly around the tire to prevent concentrations in one specific point, according to the manufacturer. Not only does this aid tire durability, the company added, but this feature also helps extend the ability for retreading.
The tread design of the AL07+ includes four straight grooves to help improve fuel efficiency and handling. In addition, the grooves become more aggressive throughout wear to make sure performance isn’t sacrificed when tread depth is eroded, according to Hankook.
