Hendrickson Truck Suspension Systems announced that its Steertek front steer axle is now available at 13,000-, 13,200-, 14,00- and 14,600-lb. ratings on International’s ProStar+, LoneStar and TranStar vehicle models. The unique fabricated design saves up to 47 lbs. compared to traditional I-beam axles, the company added.
“Offering a broader capacity range of Steertek axles shows our commitment to providing lightweight solutions to Navistar and to end users,” according to Sean Coleman, director of sales and marketing for Hendrickson Truck Systems Group.
The axle’s rigid, box-shaped design resists twisting forces more effectively than traditional I-beams, while the patented two-piece knuckle assembly simplifies kingpin bushing serviceability. In addition, integrated steering arm and tie rod attachments increase strength and further reduce weight, providing greater durability and helping to reduce maintenance costs, Hendrickson said. The unique manufacturing process of the axle allows for greater design flexibility to meet the varied industry applications while also contributing to its significant weight savings compared to traditional forged axles, the maker added.
Hendrickson said the is standard on International’s ProStar+, LoneStar and TranStar vehicle models in capacities up to 14,600 lbs., and it comes with a standard 10-year, 1 million mile limited warranty. The warranty coverage includes the axle beam, steering arm, knuckle assemblies and kingpins when used in Hendrickson-approved applications in the United States and Canada within the proper guidelines of Steertek, the company said.
