Heyl Truck Lines chooses Blue Tree Systems

Blue Tree Systems Inc., a provider of trailer tracking, reefer monitoring and fleet management solutions, announced that Heyl Truck Lines is implementing its R:COM reefer temperature management system and its in-cab feature set, including fuel management and driving style management solutions. The R:COM technology helps the carrier reduce cargo theft and better address food safety regulations.

“We chose Blue Tree Systems for refrigerated trailers and tractors after evaluating options on the market from several suppliers,” said Alan Heyl, president of Heyl Truck Lines. “We felt they would address our needs better than any other products at a more favorable price. Those needs include a reefer management system to address customer requirements for information verifying their loads meet food safety regulations, and a tracking and communications system to prevent cargo theft, improve productivity and efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction.”

Family owned and operated since 1949, Heyl Truck Lines hauls temperature-controlled and dry freight in the lower 48 states and Canada from facilities in Iowa, South Dakota, Texas, Florida, Washington and Calgary, Alberta.  The company operates about 450 tractors and 775 refrigerated trailers. Implementation of the R:COM system includes integration with the carrier’s enterprise management software from Innovative Computing Corporation.

R:COM reefer temperature management allows Heyl Truck Lines to access detailed cargo temperature and refrigeration unit operating histories, improving cargo protection and providing information to satisfy food safety regulations. Data logged in the system includes temperature set points, alarm settings and fuel levels. R:COM also provides live updates of refrigeration unit settings, operating mode, equipment alarm codes, and fuel level and cargo temperatures.

R:COM in-cab solutions provide Heyl Tuck Lines with vehicle location and tracking data to enhance productivity and customer service, and help prevent cargo theft. The Blue Tree Systems R:COM solution uses the latest GPS technology to provide accurate and reliable positioning data, and trip, stop  and time at location reports.

The R:COM driver communications suite features truck friendly turn-by-turn navigation and messaging. Fuel management capabilities through a direct connection to the engine CAN bus includes live data on fuel tank levels. R:COM’s Driving Style Management feature monitors, records and reports driving behavior for coaching to improve fuel efficiency and safety.

“By adopting Blue Tree Systems R:COM reefer temperature management and in-cab solutions for its fleet, Heyl Truck Lines is using technology that will help it improve efficiency and enhance safety and customer service,” said L. T. “Chip” Powell, director of U.S. operations at Blue Tree Systems. “We are pleased to be able to help Heyl Trucks Lines use R:COM to meet its needs.”
