The Class 5 diesel-electric hybrid model 195h from Hino Trucks was named the American Truck Dealers Association’s 2013 Medium Duty Commercial Truck of the Year. Launched in fall 2012 in California, where 130 trucks have been sold to date, the 195h model will be offered through Hino Trucks dealers in eastern, northeastern, southeastern and Sunbelt metropolitan areas in April, and in all states by June. The truck was selected for the ATD award from a field of five Class 3-7 medium-duty models by a five-member panel of journalists who evaluated the trucks for innovation, design, and safety and driver satisfaction.
The Class 5 Hino COE is also offered as the diesel model 195. Both the 195 and 195h have a 19,500-lb. GVW rating, with an optional 17,500-lb. GVWR, and are powered by a Hino 5-liter engine rated at 210 HP and 440 lb/ft of torque and fitted with an Aisin’s A465, 6-speed automatic transmission. Both models also feature a standard 33-in. frame rail width, a 56,900-PSI frame, and a center mounted rear fuel tank. The 195 and 195h are available in standard two-door and optional four-door double cabs.
