At a recent event, Jonathan Randall, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Mack Trucks, provided a business update for the trucking market.
“We’re in a hot market, and it’s a good time to be in the truck industry,” Randall said. “And you almost get the sense that people are standing on the edge looking over, trying to talk themselves into a downturn. We’re not seeing it, we’re not feeling it.”
The overall truck market continues to perform extremely well.
Randall said that an order intake dip next year is “fully expected,” noting that “you can’t fill an already full cup.
“But,” he added, “production is still going very well. And that continues to climb. It’s still very positive for us, but will next year be down? Absolutely.”
On to application specifics, Randall said that the long-haul segment has risen to 50% of the truck market in 2019, from 44% in 2018. Next year, Mack predicts that this will soften, and that construction will become a bigger portion of the market (currently 12%).
