New bulkhead spacers for heavy weight product shipments

Paylode Cargo Protection Systems' new, reusable plastic bulkhead spacers fill the void in the nose end of trailers or containers to properly balance axle weight. Engineered to withstand 20,000 lbs. of force, they better brace the load to eliminate longitudinal shifting and load damage. The lightweight, rigid parts are easy to handle for fast loading and are modular and portable, designed to fit any type of load pattern.

Paylode Cargo Protection Systems has introduced new, reusable plastic bulkhead spacers that will properly space maximum weight loads to be in compliance with bridge laws – at the lowest cost per load.

According to the maker, the new spacers fill the void in the nose end of trailers or containers to properly balance axle weight. In addition, when used in both ends of intermodal containers, they better brace the load to eliminate longitudinal shifting and load damage. They are engineered to withstand 20,000 lbs. of force, are CFR 49 compliant and have passed the Association of American Railroads impact tests.

Paylode reusability delivers a low total cost per shipment versus alternative expendable dunnage materials, the company said. The technology has a 7+-year service life and costs about the same as one to two years’ worth of expendable dunnage. Payback is typically less than a year with an internal rate of return greater than 50%, the company added.

These components are modular and portable, designed to fit any type of load pattern. The lightweight, rigid parts are easy to handle for fast loading. In addition, the company said, the reusable dunnage provides improved sustainability of the supply chain, eliminating the waste and cost of expendable dunnage (typically wood and corrugated materials). They are made of 100% recycled plastic, and Paylode buys back components at end of life and recycles them for a true cradle-to-cradle life cycle, the company added.
