Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) has released the latest in its lineup of heavy truck steer tires, the HSU2 (Heavy Steer Urban), which replaces the HSU model. The redesigned tire offers increased tread life through its wider 26/32-in. deep rib design, now with 17% more wear volume than the HSU, the company said. The tire tread is formulated with a cut and tear-resistant tread compound to improve wear in both high scrub and on/off road applications such as those encountered in waste hauling and construction, CTNA added. Also, the tire’s stone ejection system reduces casing penetrations and stone retention by actively ejecting rocks and debris from the tire’s grooves and protects against the cracking and tearing associated with stone retention. A sidewall curb rib fights damage from curbing, cuts and abrasions, while the new tire’s enhanced bead design enables 10,000-lb. load carrying capacity at 65 MPH, CTNA said. The tire maker’s proprietary visual alignment indicator (VAI) system, a series of sipes at graduated tread depths, allow for easy detection of wear differences between the shoulder ribs that may signal vehicle front-end alignment problems. The new tire can be ordered now through Continental truck tire dealers and is available in the 315/80R22.5 size. For more information, visit http://www.continental-truck.com.
