OTC introduces new PocketScan code reader

OTC said its new PocketScan Code Reader automatically reads DTCs when connected to the vehicle for faster diagnosis. Because it is the size of an average business card, the reader is ideal for tow trucks and off-the-road service vehicles as well as home use. The PocketScan Code Reader is compatible with 1996 and newer vehicles, and also provides Freeze Frame, VIN information, and performs the important task of inspection and maintenance (I/M) readiness testing by displaying the I/M readiness monitor status.

OTC, an SPX brand, introduced its new PocketScan Code Reader (P/N 3108), which the company said is an easy-to-use OBD II code reader that automatically reads DTCs when connected to the vehicle for faster diagnosis. It also provides Freeze Frame, VIN information, and performs the important task of inspection and maintenance (I/M) readiness testing by displaying the I/M readiness monitor status. The OTC 3108 is about the size of an average business card, making it ideal for tow trucks and off-the-road service vehicles as well as home use, the company added.

“OTC’s 3108 PocketScan is the perfect tool for technicians that need a basic ‘toolbox tool’ for quick review of trouble codes that caused the check engine light to illuminate,” said Jennifer Grabowski, SPX Service Solutions product manager of diagnostics. “Once connected to the vehicle, technicians are able to obtain more than 4,000 on-screen DTC definitions for generic standard codes in seconds. This includes valuable information that is commonly requested for fleet and police vehicles.”

The backlit screen allows technicians to read information in darkly lit areas and the three-button keypad allows the user to back out of screens, providing a more intuitive interface that saves time. Its compact size makes it easy to store and take anywhere and all of the information is on the screen so no manual is required to operate.

Additional product features include:

• Compatible with 1996 and newer vehicles (OBDII & CAN)
• Displays OBD II generic code definitions
• Reads and displays DTCs
• Erases DTCs
• Reads and displays MIL status
• Reads and displays I/M monitors
• Reads and displays pending codes
• Reads and displays freeze frame data
• Reads and displays VIN (easy way to check vehicle ID number)
• OBD II cable (attached), manual included
