Rush Truck Centers Technician Challenge
Just before the holidays, the Rush Truck Centers’ eighth annual Tech Skills Rodeo was staged in the San Antonio Convention Center, having outgrown its previous home at one of the dealerships. The phenomenal growth of the Rush network as the company acquires more and more International stores is partly responsible for the move to the convention center. Where in the early days of the event it drew from 45 Rush Truck Centers, the Rodeo now features competitors from nearly 100 stores in 14 states employing 1,975 technicians. Of these, 600 took 1100 exams locally and the top 106 were rewarded with the trip for the Hands-On testing in San Antonio, each highly skilled techs, competing to prove who is the 2013 super-tech in the Rush organization.
The event saw three days of testing and classroom activities. At the final banquet Jason Swann from the Dallas Rush Truck Center was presented with the Grand Champion award, as well as wins in two categories which netted him $14,000 cash, another $1,500 worth of products and as a special bonus, a helmet and race suit that belonged to Nascar race driver Tony Stewart who attended the final banquet.
In all, 30 techs came away winners, awarded checks of $3,000 to $5,000 as well as products and in some cases an addition dollar an hour bonus on their hourly rate.
