SAF-Holland announces a retrofit kit for its Holland ELI-te fifth wheel coupling assistant

SAF-HOLLAND-ELI-te-Red-Light

SAF-Holland, global manufacturer of trailer suspension and axle systems, truck suspensions, fifth wheels, landing gear, and coupling products, introduced the retrofit kit for its new automatic fifth wheel lighting system–Electronic Lock Indicator (ELI-te)–at the North American Commercial Vehicle show.

Designed for Holland FW35 Series Fifth Wheels, the ELI-te uses state-of-the-art components to ensure robust performance in an easy-to-install, economical product, the company explained. A long-life, application-specific electronic control module is mounted directly to the fifth wheel top plate, and features electrical output capability to support connection with remote indicators.

For a look at the ELI-te system in action, watch the video below.

With the new Retrofit Kit for the ELI-te, fleets looking to immediately add its safety features to their FW35 Series Fifth Wheels can acquire the kit through SAF-Holland Original Parts Aftermarket Distributors and Dealer. And, the plug-and-play technology makes it easy to install, according to the company. In addition to the retrofit kit, it’s also available as a replacement top plate or as a complete fifth wheel assembly to replace non-Holland fifth wheels.

Dropped trailers are an expensive and preventable situation so ELI-te is ideal for fleets looking to enhance safety. When a trailer kingpin is properly coupled to an ELI-te equipped fifth wheel, four high-intensity white LED lights automatically illuminate the kingpin and lockjaws making inspection easier. A failed coupling attempt triggers daytime-visible red flashing warning LED lights on both sides of the fifth wheel to alert drivers that the vehicle is not ready for motion.

For a non-drilled top plate, the kit can be ordered with an optional drilling tool kit. For converter dolly applications, the electrical connection is designed to be compatible with ABS status signals. The complete system provides enhanced operation safety and efficiency for the fleet, and allows for efficient aftermarket retrofit installation.
