Shell reveals plans for second Starship run

In the summer of 2018, Shell Lubricants collaborated with AirFlow Truck Co. and several industry partners to build the Starship concept truck, and ran it on a coast-to-coast run which achieved an 8.94 MPG average. Now, the company has shared that the truck will be embarking on another coast-to-coast run in 2020.

In 2018, Shell Lubricants collaborated with AirFlow Truck Co. and several industry partners to build the Starship concept truck, and ran it on a coast-to-coast run in the summer of 2018, achieving an 8.94 MPG average. Now, the company has shared that the truck will be embarking on another coast-to-coast run sometime in 2020.

First, the company will be making some adjustments to the truck, both to the technology available on it and how it is driven. The second run will measure the impact of these changes.

“We think there’s more to be done with this truck,” said Jason Brown, global technology manager for heavy-duty diesel engine oil for Shell Rotella. “It’s not done with its maiden voyage just yet.”

The combination is expected to be complete in the first week of April, after which the businesses will be branded as Powerfleet.
