Carrier: Vector units are quietest diesel-powered reefers in N.A.

The Vector 6500 single-temperature unit was tested by Carrier Transicold in accordance with ARI Standard 1120, paired against a competitive unit of comparable capacity equipped with a factory-installed sound-reduction package. When running in high-speed cooling mode, the Vector unit’s sound output measured six decibels quieter than the competitor.

Transport Refrigeration Units and CARB regs

CARB regulation uses a phased approach over about 15 years to reduce the diesel particulate matter emissions from in-use TRU engines that operate in California.

Thermo King Smooth Air Blower lowers fuel usage by up to 7%

The company has enhanced its Spectrum and SB-30 series units with the Smooth Air Blower, which can increase cooling capacity by up to 4% and lower fuel usage by up to 7%. In addition, the Smooth Air Blower assembly requires 24% less power than previous generation blower assemblies.

Marten Transport earns Thermo King energy efficiency award

Marten Transport has earned the the Thermo King Energy Efficiency Leader Award for its efforts in combining customer feedback, common sense solutions and innovative systems to incorporate improvements expected to lower refrigeration hours by 10%, reduce idle time to 2% and save millions of gallons of fuel.

Carrier introduces new APX control system

Available on Carrier’s X2 Series of refrigeration units, the APX control system improves transport refrigeration unit operation with “unique distributed electronics” for better reliability; a bigger, brighter display with simplified user interface; greater memory, and an expanded range of applications for unit customization.

Thermo King electronic throttling valve saves fuel

Thermo King said its new electronic throttling valve for straight trucks allows fleets to optimize energy and operational efficiency while improving product quality on delivery. the ETV saves up to 30% in fuel and reaches set point up to 50% faster.

Keep refrigerated cargo safe

Salmonella-tainted eggs may have been the food safety headline of 2010, but in actuality, the FDA issued more than 330 food safety-related recalls, warnings and advisories last year on items from nearly every aisle of the supermarket. "Whenever there is a large food recall in the news, it can serve as a reminder of the

Optimize fleet maintenance, sustainability with new reefer technology

Refrigerated haulers grapple with high fuel costs, increased regulations and other challenges, but there is a new reefer technology that offers help.

Getting ready for winter with Thermo King

The company’s Extreme Arctic Option for TriPac auxiliary power units allow drivers to cut idle-related costs by up to 85% and stay warm and comfortable as temperatures drop. The Extreme Arctic package, which reduces cold start damage to tractor engines, includes an ambient switch to allow the unit to run continuously when temperatures drop to 0 degrees F and to shut off automatically at 10 degrees F.

C.R. England increases operational efficiency with innovative solutions

The company is using Thermo King’s TempStack container-on-flatcar technology, which offers significant cost savings, expanded network coverage capacity and a reduced carbon footprint. The use of the intermodal network saved C.R. England and its customers more than 3.5 million gallons of fuel last year.

Dean Foods, Thermo King introduce eco-friendly reefer technology

Dean Foods recently unveiled a delivery vehicle equipped with a new prototype truck refrigeration system developed by Thermo King. The diesel-free, hybrid electric-powered refrigeration technology reduces emissions and waste by operating on electricity both while parked and while driving, eliminating the need for an independent engine in the refrigeration unit. It also emits significantly less noise than conventional mechanical refrigeration units.

Evolving hybrid reefers

Fleets will be the beneficiaries as hybrid reefer technology continues to improve
