Toyo rolls out new tires

Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. introduced three new medium truck tires at MATS: the M177 regional to long-haul steer tire; the M170 regional steer tire; and the M920 drive traction tire for regional and long-haul trucking.

Featuring the company’s e-balance technology, the tires deliver improved tire life, endurance, retreadability, reduced rolling resistance and irregular wear, according to Toyo.

The M177 is a SmartWay-verified, premium low rolling resistance steer tire designed for use in regional to long-haul applications, the tiremaker said. Also suitable for use on a trailer position, the M177 is available in both G and H load ratings in the following sizes: 295/75R22.5; 285/75R24.5; 11R22.5; and 11R24.5.

The M170 regional steer tire is capable of being used in all wheel positions, Toyo said, adding the tire features a durable compound and increased tread volume as well as improved bead durability and wear. Current sizes are an 11R22.5 and a 12R22.5, both with an H load range.

The premium M920 drive traction tire is designed for trucks that require all-season capabilities to deliver loads in any weather condition. Ideal for regional and long-haul applications, it features wide, staggered tread blocks for improved traction and perform- ance while additional features assist in excellent wet performance, longer tire life and reduced irregular wear, Toyo added. The M920 currently is available in two sizes — 245/70R19.5 and 11R22.5 — with plans to expand the lineup later this year.

According to the latest numbers from ACT Research, preliminary North America Class 8 net orders were 27,700 units, up 600 units from January and 16% from a year ago. With the fourth-largest seasonal factor of the year at 8%, seasonal adjustment reduces February’s Class 8 intake to 25,600 units, up 5% from January.

“Weak freight and carrier profitability fundamentals, and large carriers guiding to lower capex in 2024, would imply pressure in U.S. tractor, the North American Class 8 market’s largest segment,” said Kenny Vieth, ACT’s president and senior analyst. “While we do not yet have the underlying detail for February order volumes, Class 8 demand continuing at high levels again this month suggests that U.S. buyers continue as strong market participants.”
