A fleet view of why you should be paying attention to the 3G sunset

Chances are, despite the slew of headlines, you likely aren’t aware of the looming 3G sunset. It’s understandable, but as these older networks are slated to go dark that means your data-driven truck solutions could too if you don’t update your hardware. Luckily for you, you landed on this story, and to hammer home how important it is for you to update your truck devices, KRP Rentals and Trucking’s Kris Poole, health, safety and environment (HSE) director, shares his device upgrade experience in the video above.

“I am getting faster response times on the pinging, and we’re getting more accurate data about where our assets are,” Poole said about the upgrade to Verizon Connect Reveal 4G units. The company frequently travels to remote locations and realized recently that they could now locate their vehicles in the Verizon Connect Reveal application, which was a benefit of the new 4G units. Accurate location data is essential for KRP because the company often needs to deploy the closest vehicle to a customer.

Sunsetting 3G will allow spectrum to be allocated for Verizon’s 4G LTE and 5G networks, bringing the potential for new capabilities for business operations and customer experiences. Transitioning to 4G LTE offers customers additional benefits, such as extended wireless network coverage, higher bandwidth and data speeds/lower latency, the wireless provider says.

It’s not too late to upgrade your devices, but the end of 3G is near. Listen to Poole’s experience above and then reach to to your intelligent solutions provider.

Upgraded devices means upgraded features

The 3G sunset means you have to upgrade devices, but you get host of new trucking solutions to go along with. Hear Verizon Connect’s take on what 4G LTE technology brings to the fleet management table:

A brake job seems like a pretty straightforward, run-of-the-mill service event, but then the trailer is back in the bay, this time with a wheel end issue. It seems unrelated--leaking lube--but then, as the fleet manager, you think back to that brake job when you had to take the wheel end apart. Did your tech put it back together correctly? Could your service department or provider have caused this issue? Could it have been avoided?
