U.S. Xpress Enterprises orders 1,000 Peterbilt Model 587s

Peterbilt's premium new Model 587 features a number of aerodynamic enhancements, technological and safety innovations and serviceability improvements for maximum performance. The truck has earned the Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay certification and has been recognized as fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly.

Peterbilt Motors Co. announced it has received a truck order for 1,000 new Model 587 SmartWay certified trucks from U.S. Xpress Enterprises, the nation’s second largest privately owned truckload carrier. Peterbilt’s premium new Model 587 features a number of aerodynamic enhancements, technological and safety innovations and serviceability improvements for maximum performance.

“Peterbilt is proud that U.S. Xpress has chosen to invest in the fuel-efficient Model 587 for their fleet of premium heavy duty trucks,” said Bill Jackson, Peterbilt general manager and PACCAR vice president. “U.S. Xpress is a technologically advanced company that recognizes the value in Peterbilt’s fuel-efficient design, driver productivity advantages and low total cost of operation.”

The new Model 587 has earned the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay certification and has been recognized as fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. The SmartWay program has established a comprehensive set of fuel-saving, low-emission equipment specifications for new Class 8 long-haul tractors and trailers. The Model 587 offers customers fuel savings, lower greenhouse gas emissions and significantly reduces NOx, particulate matter and other air pollutants, according to the company.

“The sleek new Model 587 is Peterbilt’s most aerodynamic design and is the ideal product for companies like U.S. Xpress, which are dedicated to reducing fuel consumption and their carbon footprint,” said Landon Sproull, Peterbilt chief engineer. “Improved maneuverability, visibility and serviceability features make the Model 587 an optimal performer.”
