Embracing truck service changes that come with EVs

Young Trucks adapts to EVs with Volvo's certification program, investing in equipment, training, and safety for heavy-duty electric truck service.

Electric trucks work just as hard as diesel trucks, and they need the same level of service and support to get job done. Transitioning toward zero-emissions vehicles with the latest heavy-duty battery electric trucks like the Volvo VNR Electric isn’t just about keeping up with technology advancements—it’s about making significant investments in infrastructure and safety to ensure that service centers are prepared for the unique challenges of these vehicles.

Fifty-nine Volvo Trucks service locations across North America have now completed the rigorous and extensive program designed to provide a comprehensive ecosystem of customer support for heavy-duty battery electric vehicle adoption. We stopped by one of them for a look behind the EV service scenes.

At Young Trucks, an EV-certified dealer, the decision to become an EV-certified dealer meant staying ahead of the needs of their customers. It meant making investments in equipment, training and even charging infrastructure. It meant focusing on safety—always a core tenant of Young Trucks service operation. All employees underwent safety training specific to electric vehicles. This training is essential to understand the high-voltage systems and the potential hazards associated with them. Additionally, two technicians received offsite training on commissioning and decommissioning electric trucks.

From insulated tools and dedicated EV service bays to the repairs they’re expecting to handle on battery electric commercial vehicles, there was plenty to learn about during the visit.

Watch the video to see how industry leaders like Young Trucks are paving the way for a sustainable future in heavy-duty trucking.
