Formulated exclusively for Volvo I-Shift automated manual transmissions is a fully synthetic SAE 75W-80 transmission lubricant. Depending on vehicle and application, the transmission fluid is approved for drain intervals up to 500,000 miles. Volvo I-Shift transmissions are now standard on all Volvo-powered trucks built for the North American market.

According to Volvo Trucks, the I-Shift transmission fluid’s 75W-80 viscosity grade helps maintain fuel efficiency through reduced viscous churn, smoother gear meshing and easier pumping and filtering. In addition, its high viscosity index allows for low-temperature fluidity for quicker starts, easy shifts and reduced wear during cold start-ups, while also providing strong lubricating films at higher temperatures, the company said.

The Volvo transmission fluid also optimizes friction properties to ensure smooth and rapid gear shifting, reducing stress on the driveline and tires, the company added, while shear stability and load carrying capacity help maintain effective viscosity and film strength for better wear protection under all operating conditions. The transmission fluid offers thermal durability and oxidation resistance as well, Volvo said, which helps protect against deposit formation and contributes to long seal life and extended oil drain intervals.

Volvo I-Shift Transmission Fluid SAE 75W-80 is available in five-gallon pails and four one-gallon jugs.
