Volvo Trucks President talks market share gains, truck technology growth

In what is becoming an annual event, Volvo Trucks North America President Peter Voorhoeve took time during ATA MC&E to reflect on the past year and look to what the future holds for Volvo Trucks. Volvo has taken huge strides in heavy-duty battery electric truck development, deployment and support, hosting an electromobility summit and publishing the lessons the company learned from the Volvo LIGHTS Project. Volvo also gained market share in 2022, Voorhoeve noted, launched I-Torque for Volvo’s diesel powertrains and rolled out its autonomous demo truck to several industry events.

I wanted to find out what was driving Volvo’s gains beyond the electric truck efforts, how its diesel-powered offering is gaining ground, and what it’s going to take for autonomous technology to take off in the real world. Watch the video for Voorhoeve’s take on the current market climate and where Volvo Trucks is going into 2023.

Last year, Cummins announced the development of a common X Series engine platform that would offer a selection of diesel, natural gas, or hydrogen fuel capabilities to serve fleet decarbonization efforts and meet application demands set by diesel engines. This isn't just the continued evolution of ICE efficiency. Changing the fuel that the engine burns changes a host of variables, including lubrication.

A retrofittable Level 2 automated driver assistance system ride along

Automated driver assistance systems tend to get lumped together with monikers like “active lane keep assist” and “adaptive cruise control,” but the reality is that all ADAS systems have subtle operational differences that can make a big impact on a truck driver over thousands of miles. International’s plan for supporting its new powertrain after the sale

It’s one thing to launch a new product and another to support it after the sale, but that’s when the true “total cost of ownership” is realized. At some point in any piece of equipment’s lifecycle, there are maintenance needs. How quickly the component is fixed and back on the road generating revenue can make
