Hydrogen-electric trucks still have a fully electric powertrain—meaning there’s no diesel or gasoline engine. But rather than being powered solely by electric batteries, the electric motor is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, which allows the truck to use a smaller, lighter battery.
Naturally that invites another question: what is a hydrogen fuel cell, and how does it work? Part 1 of this episode of FE‘s Future Focus tackles the basics of hydrogen-electric trucks. Watch it below.
Next, part two of Future Focus’s look at hydrogen-powered trucks talks about the practical uses of hydrogen-electric trucks, and what the future holds for them. Watch part two below, and don’t forget to subscribe to FE’s YouTube channel to watch new episodes of Future Focus every month, plus our On the Road series.
