There’s no substitute for climbing into the cab of a brand new truck, taking the driver seat, sliding your hand across the wheel and taking it for a drive. Hopefully, this video is the next best thing. At a pre-launch event, the Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) team gave me the chance to get behind the wheel of the newly launched Western Star 57X, the brand’s on-highway offering. Powered by a Detroit pedigree, the new truck was designed from the ground up, and it shows. New cab, new driver displays, new safety system offerings, new everything.
