Willis Power Systems introduces ‘Willie’ APU

The compact auxiliary power unit is versatile and lightweight, offering up to 50% more engine power than competitive products. Its compact design allows for easy installation of a closed-loop cooling system versus one that is integrated into the truck's own HVAC system.

Willis Power Systems Inc. (WPS) introduced a compact auxiliary power unit (APU) that has been specifically engineered to allow fleets and owner-operators to meet the complex operating and regulatory environment facing the trucking industry. WPS has begun manufacturing the versatile, lightweight Willie APU, which will be initially sold and distributed through its current and expanding dealer network that includes the Larson Group, as well as various Rush Truck Centers and Hunter Truck Sales locations, according to the company.

“We are extremely excited about the Willie product and the great benefits it brings to the commercial trucking community,” said Keith Wright, WPS COO. “Only better technology solutions can solve the mounting pressure on engine and truck manufacturers to lower carbon emissions and reduce fuel consumption from idling, and do it in a way that is still economical and efficient. Willie not only does this, it also maintains the highest power output of any APU on the market.”

According to the company, the Willie APU offers up to 50% more engine power than competitive products and its compact and lightweight design allows for easy installation of a closed-loop cooling (CLC) system versus one that is integrated into the truck’s own HVAC system. “Willie provides the power and quality of our Premium APU product but is priced very competitively to meet the needs of the average driver and trucking company,” Wright said.

“Willie gives built-in redundancy to a big rig’s critical systems. At the same time, it is designed to be very serviceable and is backed by extraordinary parts availability. All of these advantages make owning a Willie a natural extension of the driver’s business.”
