New products introduced at this year’s Mid-America Trucking Show seem to be a sign of increasing economic growth and renewed confidence.

Innovative drive axle, braking solutions unveiled by Meritor

The new solutions are focused on fuel economy improvements and meeting upcoming, more stringent stopping distance FMVSS-121 requirements. Meritor’s lightweight enhancement to its new 14X axle family is a 100-lb. lighter aluminum carrier option, available in 2012. The company also detailed the benefits of an advanced rear axle concept “with the ability to achieve optimized weight reductions and corresponding payload increases of more than 1,000 lbs. and increase fuel efficiency by 10%.”

Bendix expands air disc brake manufacturing

Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC plans to open a new production line at its Bowling Green, Ky., manufacturing plant in June to meet increased demand for its patented Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes. With a nearly 120% increase in demand from 2009 to 2010 and an expected additional increase of nearly 40% in 2011, the new production line will help BSFB continue to meet the needs of OEMs, fleets and owner-operators.

Hendrickson launches next generation Steertek NXT

The newest product is the next generation of the road-proven, weight saving Steertek fabricated front steer axle. It will accommodate a variety of wheel end and knuckle designs and features scalable architecture to meet a capacity range of 8,000 to 23,000 lbs. NXT saves up to 47 lbs. compared to traditional I-beam axles while combining rigid strength, outstanding maneuverability and reduced maintenance.

Peterbilt increases production on Model 587 and Model 382

The Model 587 is an EPA SmartWay certified vehicle equipped with standard front air disc brakes and a newly-designed steering geometry that offers 12% improved curb-to-curb maneuverability. The Model 382 features a cab specifically designed to meet the needs of the driver, with a sloped hood that provides optimal visibility and a technologically advanced forward-lighting system.
