PeopleNet announced it has expanded options for customers to enhance driver safety by adding another partner, ALK Technologies, to power its In-Cab Navigation application.
According to the company, CoPilot Truck helps drivers calculate routes and get back on route in the quickest, easiest and safest way. Making the announcement, PeopleNet senior vice president of product management and operations Rick Ochsendorf said, “Safety is the holy grail for today’s trucking firm, so trucking companies are looking for ways to reduce the root causes of accidents, with the number one cause being distraction. One of the most effective ways to eliminate distraction is to provide spoken turn-by-turn directions, ensuring that drivers focus on the road. Plus, routing efficiency results in reduced mileage, time and fuel costs a winning combination.”
In-Cab Navigation powered by ALK Technologies’ CoPilot Truck provides an easy-to-use, intuitive interface with spoken turn-by-turn directions and easy to follow, non-distracting guidance displays, the company said. PeopleNet will be the first onboard computing provider to launch the latest release, Version 9, of CoPilot Truck. It calculates efficient routes based on vehicle profile information, routing parameters such as truck-restricted and prohibited roads, and load type, including hazardous materials. Its motion-triggered safety lock ensures drivers stay focused on driving.
Onboard route calculation to 7 million points of interest (POIs) or integrated dispatched stops ensures that drivers stay on the road and in motion, the company added. Drivers can quickly identify destinations and calculate routes, searching POIs by name or category, including truck-specific categories such as truck stops and weigh stations. ALK said it provides consistency between its back-office routing, mileage and mapping software, PC*MILER, and in-cab CoPilot Truck routes.
