Hannaford Trucking Co. and Fleet Advantage have initiated a Clean Air Program that will likely earn Hannaford the title of "New England’s Greenest Fleet" by 2014, the company said.
Using technology and methodologies designed by Fleet Advantage, Hannaford said it has quickly adapted the improvements and made significant strides in reducing harmful emissions. In addition, Hannaford has saved more than 137,000 gallons of diesel fuel in 2010 and anticipates reducing usage by nearly 460,000 total gallons by 2014a projected savings of more than $1.5 million.
“Our partnership with Fleet Advantage, utilizing their Clean Air Program, offers an environmentally and economically sustainable program for our tractor fleet,” said Matt Paul, Hannaford spokesperson. “Our emissions, maintenance and fuel reductions over the past year have been significant and we’re looking forward to even greater savings over the next three years.”
The Clean Air Program targets three categories of harmful emissions that are prevalent in large tractor fleets: carbon dioxide, particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.
The early results of the Clean Air Program partnership have already made an impact for Hannaford, the company reported:
Reduction of 1,388 metric tons (MT) of carbon dioxide from 2009 to 2010; with a projected cumulative total reduction of 4,625 MT by 2014
Reduction of 1.61 MT of particulate matter from 2009 to 2010; with a projected cumulative total reduction of 2.54 MT by 2014
Reduction of 50 MT of nitrogen oxides from 2009 to 2010; with a projected cumulative reduction of 127 MT by 2014
