Michelin launches X Multi Energy Z regional steer tire

Michelin Americas Truck Tires, a division of Michelin North America Inc., announced the launch of its new Michelin X Multi Energy Z, a regional steer tire that meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay verified requirements. With a 15% reduction in rolling resistance, the tire delivers fuel efficiency, longevity and durability, according to the company. The Michelin X Multi Energy Z will be available March 1 for the replacement market and May 1 for the OE market in the United States and Canada.

“When combined with the Michelin X Multi Energy D drive tire, the Michelin X Multi Energy Z provides a complete SmartWay regional solution,” said Ted Becker, vice president of marketing for Michelin Americas Truck Tires.

Additionally, the Michelin X Multi Energy Z tire can be used as a steer tire and rotated back as it wears down, according to the company.

Michelin noted that the X Multi Energy Z tire is intended to address the main concerns for the emerging super regional trucking application. The tire combines the fuel efficiency of linehaul application tires with the mileage of regional application tires, while withstanding irregular wear and scrub, said Paul Johnston, Michelin business segment manager.

Johnston noted that the X Multi Energy Z is suited for, but not limited to, parcel, dry van LTL, food and beverage, pick-up and delivery segments.

The Michelin X Multi Energy Z tire is available in three sizes: 11R22.5 LRG, 11R22.5 LRH and 275/80R22.5 LRH.

Black curtains surround the room that's segmented by rolling privacy screens, blocking off the business end of a European Volvo truck (is it an FH? An electric? It's hard to tell.) This is the only area trucking journalists from North America are allowed in. The rest of the building, named Lundby, high-tech center for research and development at Volvo Trucks headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is off-limits. Even several of the Gothenburg-based Volvo Trucks employees that are presenting haven't been allowed in this building before. But what we're here to talk about is anything but a secret.
