Toyo introduces new super single for regional to urban use

Toyo Tire USA Corp. introduced the new Toyo M149 super single for regional to urban use on commercial trucks. This all-position super single tire is designed to deliver superior wear performance in tough operations ranging from urban front axles to long haul trailers, according to the company. Additionally, optimized construction and tread design delivers high uniformity, even wear and excellent wet traction.

According to Toyo, benefits of this new tire include:

  • Long tread life—The optimized profile of the M149 minimizes casing growth of the tread area for long wear life. Six straight and stiff ribs provide smooth wear and also contribute to long life.
  • Excellent performance and safety—Five wide grooves with siping on the ribs provide outstanding wet traction. In addition, exceptional uniformity and balance contribute to a smooth ride.
  • Superior casing durability—Wide steel belt construction braces the tread area of the M149, improving durability, while a high elongation top belt protects casing integrity. A high stiffness bead filler also improves sidewall durability.

“We are pleased to add the M149 wide-based tire to our broad selection of Toyo commercial tire products,” said Lowell Slimp, senior product manager, commercial truck tires, Toyo Tire USA Corp. “We remain committed to growing our product line and developing tires like this that give dealers and truck owner/operators what they need and want—longer tread life, excellent performance and durability that leads to retreadability.”

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) announced that it is integrating a comprehensive circular economy approach across its operations. This strategy emphasizes repairing, remanufacturing, repurposing and recycling lithium-ion battery materials used in DTNA's electric vehicles.

With goals to maximize battery lifespans and reduce material waste, DTNA says the circular economy approach strives to extend the usability of rare-earth materials and products. DTNA says its advanced technology can discern when a lithium-ion battery no longer meets DTNA’s high standards required for vehicle use. This insight guides the decision on the optimal process to maximize materials for a second life, with repair taking precedence whenever possible.
