Tips for truck finish upkeep and maintenance

Tips for truck finish upkeep, maintenance

Making sure your truck finish maintenance is at the top of its game will help stave off harmful corrosion. Here are the top tips from our panel of experts:

1. Establish a consistent cleaning schedule, especially during the winter months to clean the body and chassis of salts and chemicals accumulated over time.
2. Road salt and chemicals should be removed within a couple days of exposure by washing and rinsing the truck with clean water, applying a cleaning solvent recommended for removing any road tar as needed.
3. Ice scrapers or stiff bristle brushes shouldn’t be used on painted surfaces to remove snow or ice.
4. Chose a reputable paint shop that has a rock solid standard operating procedure developed in conjunction with their coatings supplier.
5. Chemical resistance in a coating is important, but so is UV resistance. If your fleet finishing features bright colors or metallic, UV resistance is important if you don’t want to deal with the constant repairing of coatings or repainting.
6. Pressure wash the truck from top to bottom at least twice a month.
7. Utilize a proper PH cleaning solution followed by an appropriate rinse.
8. Ensure you adequately flush acid-based cleaning products from the surface.
9. Wax twice a year as well.
