Kenworth 40-in. sleeper now available for order

Kenworth’s new 40-in. sleeper is now available for order with either the T880 or T680. According to Kenworth, the new 40-in. sleeper with the T880 is suitable in vocational applications that use straight trucks, such as petroleum haulers or the tow industry, and for tractors that transport flatbeds, lowboys or other trailers where length and weight are a factor; the sleeper is also a good fit in the Kenworth T680 for regional bulk haulers who prefer to operate a highly fuel-efficient tractor. The sleeper provides a 260-lb. weight savings compared to Kenworth’s 52-in. regional sleeper for additional benefits.

Features highlighted by Kenworth include a 24-in. wide by 78-in. long, liftable bunk with 90-degree tilt for storage, 22 cubic ft. of storage space to handle gear for occasional stays in the sleeper, two standard toolbox doors, storage shelves and a cell phone cubby. To help drivers operating in tight locations, customers may order an optional 19- by 36-in. stationary or sliding window on the back of the sleeper, while also choosing to add two 19- by 12-in. outboard windows to go with the larger window. Some additional options include LED marker lights, extreme temperature insulation, premium speakers, side extenders, and stainless steel sun visor.

Black curtains surround the room that's segmented by rolling privacy screens, blocking off the business end of a European Volvo truck (is it an FH? An electric? It's hard to tell.) This is the only area trucking journalists from North America are allowed in. The rest of the building, named Lundby, high-tech center for research and development at Volvo Trucks headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is off-limits. Even several of the Gothenburg-based Volvo Trucks employees that are presenting haven't been allowed in this building before. But what we're here to talk about is anything but a secret.
