Kenworth adds 52-in. sleeper to T680 Advantage options

Kenworth has added a 52-in. mid-roof sleeper to the list of options for the company’s aerodynamic T680 Advantage package.

Kenworth’s T680 Advantage configuration utilizes an optimized powertrain featuring the 2016 PACCAR MX-13 engine or PACCAR MX-11 engine and Eaton Fuller Advantage series 10-speed automated transmission, combined with Meritor MT40-14X drive axles rated at 40,000 lbs.

New aerodynamic elements on the 52-in. mid-roof sleeper configuration include a front air dam to redirect around versus under the tractor, mini-kickout fairings to force air around the trailer and drive tires, and lower fairing extenders. Kenworth Predictive Cruise Control, Kenworth Neutral Coast, Kenworth Driver Performance Assistant, and FlowBelow wheel covers are other notable fuel-efficiency features.

According to Kenworth, the T680 Advantage with 52-in. mid-roof sleeper offers up to a 6% fuel economy benefit compared to a non-optimized Kenworth T680 52-in. mid-roof sleeper with the previous generation of PACCAR MX-13 engine, Eaton Fuller automated transmission, and standard drive axles.

“Our expanded Kenworth T680 Advantage lineup now provides three excellent Advantage choices—day cab, 52-in. mid-roof sleeper and 76-in. sleeper—to those regional haul, LTL fleets and truck operators in constant pursuit of achieving greater fuel economy and lower operating costs,” said Jason Skoog, Kenworth’s assistant general manager for sales and marketing.

Black curtains surround the room that's segmented by rolling privacy screens, blocking off the business end of a European Volvo truck (is it an FH? An electric? It's hard to tell.) This is the only area trucking journalists from North America are allowed in. The rest of the building, named Lundby, high-tech center for research and development at Volvo Trucks headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is off-limits. Even several of the Gothenburg-based Volvo Trucks employees that are presenting haven't been allowed in this building before. But what we're here to talk about is anything but a secret.
