Mack Trucks updates Pinnacle and Granite models with new driver-focused interiors

Mack Trucks introduced new interiors for its Mack Granite and Mack Pinnacle models, as well as new LED headlights and a new grille for the Pinnacle model that echoes the design of the Mack Anthem, the company’s new highway model. Mack said the interior redesigns were made to support customers in attracting and retaining drivers, and were based on feedback from thousands of drivers on what matters to them.

“The new interiors for the Mack Pinnacle and Granite speak to the design team’s focus on driver comfort,” said Jonathan Randall, senior vice president of sales for Mack Trucks North America. “Everything from the dash to the race car-like feel of the steering wheel was carefully designed to make things better for drivers and owner-operators, and consequently, for fleets looking to retain them.”

The features of the new interior design, according to Mack, include:

  • A new gauge cluster and dash layout that makes frequently used controls easier to reach, and has room for 18 switches;
  • Automatic Temperature Control that maintains the temperature set by the driver;
  • A new lower center console that includes cup holders and storage bins;
  • Multiple 12-volt and USB charging ports available throughout the dash;
  • A new non-slip pad on top of the dash that features two USB charging ports; and
  • A race car-inspired flat-bottom steering wheel.

“We’ve incorporated more ergonomics and comfort features to make the driving environment more automotive,” said Stu Russoli, Mack’s highway product manager. “These enhancements make a real difference to the driver who’s behind the wheel all day, every day.”

Updates to the Mack’s Co-Pilot display, located behind the steering wheel, include a new 5-in., full-color screen for better visibility and more intuitive navigation through its many functions. Co-Pilot provides drivers a convenient way to monitor vehicle information, including engine and oil temperatures, trip odometers, aftertreatment status, tire pressures and more. A Pre-Trip Assistant guides drivers through inspection points and includes a single-person exterior light inspection mode. Controls for the Co-Pilot functions are located on the updated right-hand steering column stalk.

A new information and entertainment option, featuring a 7-in. touchscreen display, is available in both the Pinnacle and Granite models, providing safe access to Apple Car Play, satellite radio, weather band radio and TomTom truck navigation. The display is also compatible with third-party back-up camera systems.

Black curtains surround the room that's segmented by rolling privacy screens, blocking off the business end of a European Volvo truck (is it an FH? An electric? It's hard to tell.) This is the only area trucking journalists from North America are allowed in. The rest of the building, named Lundby, high-tech center for research and development at Volvo Trucks headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is off-limits. Even several of the Gothenburg-based Volvo Trucks employees that are presenting haven't been allowed in this building before. But what we're here to talk about is anything but a secret.
