While the world self-quarantines, trucks keep rolling

You deliver what the world needs, we’ll deliver the information you need.

I’ve been staring at a blinking cursor for the past two days at my makeshift work station of old folding TV dinner trays set up in my bedroom, self-isolated from two rambunctious boys under five years old who are too young to realize the impact of what’s happening across the globe, but know all too well that it’s still too cold to go outside and run around. I don’t have the virus, but I need to get work done.

The fact of the matter is that while a good chunk of the world self-quarantines, your trucks are doing just the opposite. Hours-of-service rules have been relaxed. We’ve all seen the social media pics of empty grocery store shelves. But the next delivery of toilet paper gets to those stores on a truck. Your trucks. And that’s just one of a myriad of examples of the important role your rolling iron plays on a daily basis. You know it, we know it, and now the world knows it.

And we know that equipment decisions still need made; trucks still need serviced; asset utilization is of the utmost importance.

So here’s our plan.

We might be working from home, but we’re still connected to the OEMs, suppliers and solutions providers you depend upon to ensure your fleet rolls productively and efficiently. We’re charging ahead with the content we had already planned to create while staying on top of the Coronavirus news that impacts the industry. We’re also collaborating with our digital rolodex of knowledgeable industry experts to bring you brand new stories and conversations that provide ideas and best practices for keeping your trucks working productively and your drivers operating safely.

First off, keep it tuned to our Coronavirus news page to stay up to date on the latest announcements.

Next, be sure to catch up on the Fleet Future podcast and bookmark the page as Managing Editor Alex Crissey and I are already going stir crazy and working up cool new podcast topic angles to chat about via our video conferencing platform.

Subscribe to our email newsletter where we’ll be rolling out the latest news and feature stories. Click here!

Most importantly, we want to hear from you. How are you handling the pandemic? What equipment advice and driver best practices are you putting in place? Drop me an email at [email protected]. We’ll pull through together.

Black curtains surround the room that's segmented by rolling privacy screens, blocking off the business end of a European Volvo truck (is it an FH? An electric? It's hard to tell.) This is the only area trucking journalists from North America are allowed in. The rest of the building, named Lundby, high-tech center for research and development at Volvo Trucks headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is off-limits. Even several of the Gothenburg-based Volvo Trucks employees that are presenting haven't been allowed in this building before. But what we're here to talk about is anything but a secret.
