A retrofittable Level 2 automated driver assistance system ride along

Automated driver assistance systems tend to get lumped together with monikers like “active lane keep assist” and “adaptive cruise control,” but the reality is that all ADAS systems have subtle operational differences that can make a big impact on a truck driver over thousands of miles. The best way to understand those differences is to feel them behind the wheel, or in my case, see them from the passenger seat during a live on-highway demonstration. That’s what Plus offered when it was showing off its Level 2 automated driver assistance system at ATA’s MC&E.

PlusDrive is a retrofittable ADAS system that sports seven cameras, three radars and two LiDAR sensors, offering features like advanced lane centering, nudging to allow vehicles in adjacent lanes more space, predictive cruise control, and driver-initiated auto lane changes and overtakes. The Plus team bills PlusDrive as a “driver-in” system. That type of view, highlights their vision for fully automated driving that is currently in development.

While the future might be more automated, today’s systems require a driver behind the wheel and hands on the steering wheel. So let’s take a look at what’s available right now. Watch the video above for a look at PlusDrive in action.
