Volvo Trucks talks sustainability, connectivity at ATA MC&E

Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America, set the tone at the Volvo Trucks press conference at ATA’s MCE. Sustainability, connectivity and continued investment in the OEM’s service and support network were the top three talking points.

The crown jewel of the Volvo Trucks booth was the Volvo SuperTruck 2, which boasted advanced aerodynamics and weight reduction features. This new vehicle has already surpassed both the U.S. Department of Energy’s freight efficiency standards and Volvo’s own internal targets. Elements from the SuperTruck 2 design are expected to be integrated into upcoming truck models, Voorhoeve noted.

Voorhoeve introduced a new tool aimed at assisting fleets in overseeing vehicle health by offering increased connectivity for vehicle insights and performance monitoring.

“Volvo Connect is essentially a digital suite of services, analytics and reporting, and we have co-developed this together with our customers to maximize the efficiency and the profitability, and ensuring trucks are operating at peak performance,” explained Marcus Gustavson, vice president of connected solutions at Volvo Trucks North America. “There’s context around these events that you can see through Volvo Connect. By visualizing actions customers are needing to take, we can ensure that they make the right decision fast to ensure uptime of their assets.

“We are also adding additional reporting and analytics and insights into how trucks are performing to help customers with their fuel and safety management of their fleets.”
