Horton introduces high-efficiency, hybrid-flow fan

Horton Inc. says its new WindMaster Revolution is a high-efficiency, hybrid-flow fan designed for compact engine compartments. The fans have 20% greater airflow than axial-flow fans, significantly lower operating noise, greater efficiency and a similar-size inlet, the company said. The WindMaster Revolution meets the airflow demand of EPA10, Euro VI and Tier 4 engines.

Horton Inc. introduced the WindMaster Revolution, an innovative high-efficiency, hybrid-flow fan that meets the airflow demand of EPA10, Euro VI and Tier 4 engines.

"The WindMaster Revolution is a radical change from current technologies, combining only the best features of axial-, mixed- and radial-flow fan technology," says Steve Wardleworth, vice president of operations/general manager, fan and shroud business unit at Horton. "The WindMaster Revolution is optimized to move air more efficiently around the engine and through the under-hood compartment. The result is energy savings and the highest efficiency available, with the lowest operating noise – vitally important in meeting emission regulation changes that require better cooling performance. Presently being tested in numerous vehicle and equipment models, we anticipate this will become the leading technology for new on- and off-highway applications."

The fans are designed for compact engine compartments and are available in two sizes. The 550-millimeter fans are engineered for off-highway equipment and vehicles and medium-duty trucks. The 750-millimeter fans are engineered for heavy-duty trucks and some off-highway equipment and vehicles, according to Horton.

The fans have 20% greater airflow than axial-flow fans, significantly lower operating noise, greater efficiency and a similar-size inlet. Compared to radial-flow fans, WindMaster Revolution fans have 40% smaller depth and a larger inlet diameter, require a significantly smaller space and do not require space for complex fan housing. Compared to mixed-flow fans, WindMaster Revolution fans have more than 15% greater airflow, 30% smaller depth, greater efficiency, and a larger hub section that provides for more fan drive mounting options, the company said.
