OTC, an SPX brand, has unveiled its new Scan Tool (P/N 3109), a trilingual OBDII and CAN Scan Tool that delivers LIVE Data in English, Spanish, and French. With more than 15,000 generic and manufacturer-specific code definitions, diagnosing and maintaining vehicles has never been easier. For technicians who require a basic scan tool for quick review of trouble codes that caused the check engine light to illuminate, the easy-to-use OTC 3109 comes pre-loaded with the most comprehensive vehicle and code coverage available-all at an affordable price, according to the company.
"The manufacturer-specific code definitions included in the OTC 3109 Scan Tool are specific to the vehicle’s make, model, year and engine size for more accurate code definitions than competitive products," said Jennifer Grabowski, SPX Service Solutions product manager of diagnostics. "As an added benefit, the code definitions are based on the popular Pegisys and Genisys professional information databases. The tool also features LIVE Data that allows the user to view vehicle sensor, switch and relay inputs in real time, while the engine is running. This information helps pinpoint problem components for a faster diagnosis."
The new OBD II and scan tool offers the technician a snapshot of vehicle data at the time of the fault and will give the technician a visual indication when the tool is trying to communicate and retrieve data from an OBD II vehicle, the company noted. Compatible with all 1996 and newer vehicles, the OTC 3109 is easy to use and includes patented read and erase hot keys, the company said. The intuitive menu makes it possible to display generic and enhanced definitions on screen, display freeze frame data at the time of the fault, as well as read and display all 9 modes of OBD II engine data, which includes VIN information, CVN and Cal ID, O2 monitor test, diagnostic monitor test, and on-board systems.
According to the company, the OTC 3109 can be kept current via a USB port (USB update cable is included in the package). It is also European On Board Diagnostics (EOBD) compatible, which is the equivalent of the American OBD II standard, and applies to petrol cars sold in Europe from 2001 and diesel cars 2004 and newer. It features a trilingual (English, Spanish, French) menu, comes with a user manual and is CE certified. The CE marking certifies that a product has met EU consumer safety, health or environmental requirements.
From its four button keypad with back button to its eight-line, back-lit screen capabilities, technicians are able to read more information on screen and in darkly lit areas, while reducing scrolling, according to the company. Its compact size makes it easy to store and take anywhere.
