Sierra, Yukon V8s balance fuel efficiency and capability
GMC’s Active Fuel Management is designed to help drivers get more miles out of a gallon of gas. Under light load conditions when only a fraction of the available power is needed to keep the vehicle moving, the fuel delivery to four of the eight cylinders is switched off and a solenoid system collapses the valve lifters to reduce the pumping losses and improve fuel efficiency.
Mack enhancements drive up fuel efficiency
The truck maker’s Pinnacle sleepers offer up to a 12.5% improvement in fuel economy, combining: optimized roof and chassis fairings for up to 6% better fuel economy; a 5% fuel economy improvement in proprietary ClearTech SCR; and Mack’s mDrive transmission contribution of 1.5%.
Volvo enhancements offer 8% fuel efficiency improvement
Recent powertrain enhancements and advanced aerodynamics for Volvo’s VN highway series result in an 8% improvement in fuel efficiency over EPA 2007 engines. The truck maker introduced a new 455 HP and 1,550/1,750 ft./lb. torque rating for the Volvo D13 engine. New exterior components include redesigned mirror heads with aerodynamic shrouds and arms, redesigned hood mirrors that also increase visibility, new bumper and side fairings, and a newly designed bug deflector that reduces fuel efficiency degradation.
Xtra Lease targets fuel efficiency with newest trailers
The company has ordered 6,000 new 53 ft. and longer fuel-efficient trailers equipped with aerodynamic side skirts and low rolling resistance tires. The new trailers provide added fuel efficiencies and comply with California’s Greenhouse Gas regulation, making them safe to enter and operate in that state without penalty.
