Truck-Lite said its recent release of the Super 80 LED interior trailer lamp with IR motion sensor uses advanced technology to boost efficiency for trailer operators. The interior dome is similar to Truck-Lite’s 80251C, but offers the ability to be activated when motion is recognized, thus eliminating a switch.
Jay Davenport, Truck-Lite’s national sales director for the body market, said “Our Super 80 LED Dome lamps are known for their consistent bright light output in warm or cold temperatures. By adding an IR motion sensor to this application, we are providing a hands-off service to assist in the trailer operator’s daily routine.”
The IR sensor, which compares changes in heat coupled with motion, can sense movement up to 10 feet away from the lamp surface, the company said. The lamp is designed to stay on through five minutes of inactivity before automatically shutting off, saving operators power consumption, the company said.
According to the Truck-Lite, the rugged lamp is composed of die cast aluminum housing and a polycarbonate lens. The near flush mount design is 1.1-in. thick, compared with 1-5/8-in. fluorescents, and leaves more clearance for loads or loading equipment. Retrofit or replacements are quick and easy with a recommended cutout of 16×4 in. A new potting material completely encapsulates the LEDs’ circuit board to ensure resistance to shock, vibration and fluids from cleaning activities.
Truck-Lite’s Super 80 will function at full brightness from 7V-16V. The lamp’s 10 LEDs will reach full brightness at 9.5v, thus the Super 80 eliminates problems of low voltage, the maker said.
“By taking our existing interior dome lamp and building in passive infrared technology, this essentially saves the trailer operator time and money,” commented John Howells, Truck-Lite’s VP of Sales. “In today’s economy, time is money and what we are offering allows the ease to load, unload and go without having to look back.”
