Kenworth details T680 Advantage package, launches medium-duty cabovers

The Kenworth T680 Advantage—Kenworth’s new, most fuel-efficient truck—features a special factory-installed aerodynamic package along with the optimized powertrain combination of the PACCAR MX-13 engine integrated with the Eaton Fuller Advantage 10-speed automated transmission.

Aerodynamic treatments include longer side extenders for the 76-in. sleeper, lower cab fairing extenders, front air dam, aerodynamic mud flaps, rear fairing without steps coupled with an air deflector, exhaust cut out covers and optional wheel covers for drive tires.

Other fuel-efficient specs for the T680 Advantage include speed control management that utilizes speed limiters; TPMS to keep tires at optimum PSI; and the new Kenworth Idle Management System, which eliminates the need to idle in order to run air conditioning.

USE-Kenworth-Medium DutyThe company also announced that the 12.9-liter PACCAR MX-13 engine featured on Kenworth’s T680 Advantage has earned swift adoption by fleets and truck operators in the U.S. and Canadian Class 8 truck markets. The 2014 PACCAR MX-13 offers up to 1.5% fuel economy improvement over its 2013 version.

Customers who order a new Kenworth T680 in long-haul or regional applications also may select the Eaton Fuller Advantage 10-speed automated transmission, which is optimized for the PACCAR MX-13 engine.

The combination of Eaton’s Fuller Advantage 10-speed automated transmission with the PACCAR MX-13 featured on the T680 Advantage may contribute up to a 2% fuel economy gain.

The PACCAR MX-13 engine offers horsepower range of 380 to 500 HP and torque ratings up to 1,850 lb.-ft. and is available in all Kenworth Class 8 models to meet customer power requirements for hauling applications that range from lightweight to more than 100,000 lbs.

Kenworth also announced exterior and interior enhancements to its K270 and K370 models.

“A new dash and gauge cluster, front air disc brakes, electronic braking module, and a fresh exterior are among some of the key additions,” said Doug Powell, Kenworth’s medium-duty marketing manager.

According to Powell, the Kenworth K270 Class 6 and K370 Class 7 cabovers are ideal for city and neighborhood applications, where tight turning and a shorter overall length are required.

Available with wheelbases ranging from 142 to 242 in. in 12-in. increments, the K270 and K370 can accommodate bodies from 16 to 28 ft. A large 2,500-sq.-in. wraparound windshield combines with large side windows to give optimum visibility. Powered by the 6.7-liter PACCAR PX-7 engine, which has power ratings from 200 to 250 HP, and up to 660 lb.-ft. of torque, the Kenworth cabovers are now available with a 6-speed Allison transmission, joining a 5-speed transmission already available.
