Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America has announced the launch of a new Class 5 gasoline-powered truck, the FE180 Gas.
Calling gas trucks the ”new standard for the medium-duty market,” Bill Lyons, vice president of sales and operations for MFTA, said that “as gasoline-powered trucks continue to increase in popularity in the Class 3 and 4 markets, it’s only fitting that Class 5 truck owners also want more power and performance.”
Lyons pointed to the simplicity of gasoline trucks as a reason that many of their customers are interested in the fuel as opposed to diesel, especially in segments where the truck is not necessarily operated by a professional truck driver and may not be familiar with diesel operation or repairs.
The FE180 Gas comes with a V8 6.0L gas engine from General Motors, an Allison transmission with FuelSense 2.0 and telematics from Verizon Connect.
Electrification Update
At the press conference introducing the FE180, Fuso leadership also provided an update on the electrified eCanter. The eCanter is out with a small number of customers right now, and Fuso says that they are studying the results of these electric trucks as they run urban routes, and will use the results to inform the design of the eCanter 2.0. Lyons said that there is “no question” that electrification is the company’s long-term goal in the trucking industry, but that for now they are completely committed to many power options including electric, diesel and gas.
