How ambient temperature impacts diesel engine oil (and other seasonal service tips)

Do you feel that? The chill in the wind relenting to the warm sunlight. The fresh scent of blooming flowers. The slivers of light that still peek above the horizon well after dinner time. Yes fleet friends, Spring is here. (Or at least it’s close enough after a long winter.) Time to get your trucks ready to roll into a new season.

Ambient temperatures are on the rise and that could impact how your diesel engine oil performs. “When you look at a place like Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, versus Phoenix, Arizona, you do need to be very congnizant about the needs of your engine and what the ambient temperature–minimums and maximums–are going to be,” said Ron LeBlanc Sr, senior technical advisor at Petro-Canada Lubricants, a HollyFrontier brand. This could mean the need for additional engine oil analysis or even changing engine oil grades.

To find out more about the seasonal impact on diesel engine oil, I connected with LeBlanc in the video above. Watch for all of the insight.
