Marie Robinson, executive vice president and chief supply chain officer at Sysco, collected valuable lessons from her previous positions and professional role models to shape her unique perspective and intelligence, and through this obtained the ability to simplify complex global transportation logistics for the masses. The lessons she has learned throughout her developing career are the same ones she applies to her current leadership position.

Fresh out of college, Robinson embarked on her professional journey as a logistics officer in the U.S. Army, finding herself deployed to Saudi Arabia and leading a platoon of truck drivers. This is an experience that ingrained in her a deep appreciation for the crucial role played by these frontline workers.

According to Robinson, “Nothing moves in a war zone without truck drivers.”

After dedicating 11 years to the Army, Robinson transitioned to the position of vice president of logistics at Wal-Mart. This phase coincided with the retail giant’s launch of its supercenters in the mid-1990s. During this pivotal period, Robinson had the opportunity to engage in ventures, including her involvement with the initial e-commerce fulfillment centers at Wal-Mart.

Harnessing her vast professional expertise garnered from the U.S. Army and Walmart, she further left her mark on other brands such as Toys-R-Us and Michael Kors. Fast forward to March 2020, when Robinson joined Sysco … the last week before the office closed for the pandemic.
