Castrol introduces next-generation of Tection Extra

BP Lubricants USA Inc said it plans to launch the re-engineered formulation of Castrol Tection Extra.  Scheduled for release in January 2007, Tection Extra exceeds the new CJ-4 specifications as defined by the American Petroleum Institute (API) classification of lubricants and exceeds the 2007 Original Engine Manufacturers (OEM) lubricants requirements in response to the new emission standards enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Castrol Tection Extra has been reformulated to better manage damaging soot through technology that boosts dispersion while exceeding the API Cummins ISM CJ-4 specification for soot-related wear, the company said. Even after doubling the stringent Cummins ISM testing duration from 200 to 400 hours, Castrol Tection Extra still demonstrated wear levels below that of the original 200-hour CJ-4 limits.

Soot, if not managed properly, forms abrasive particles that wear away vital engine components such as, camshaft lobes, pistons, piston rings, cylinder walls and all critical metal to metal contact surfaces and can starve critical components of proper lubrication causing premature engine failure.

Castrol Tection Extra exceeds the API CJ-4 specifications by utilizing the latest technology to protect the 2007 OEM engines and their sensitive exhaust after-treatment devices and provides enhanced protection for engines manufactured prior to 2007, the company said.
